Perhaps we have never been more "Dragon Proud" of a pool play day on the opening day of a pre-season tournament. But given the way this week started at the hands of Lovejoy with a 3-0 sweep going against your Lady Dragons, and down several times during the course of the day today, it would have been very easy for a young team to throw in the towel and say "it just wasn't our week." That's not what happened in Justin this morning, however.

On this opening Thursday of the Northwest ISD Tournament your Lady Dragons went 3-0 with wins over Bryan, Lake Dallas and El Paso Coronado...all without dropping a set. But as they say on ESPN, "due to time constraints" we will move ahead to the Coronado match.

After winning set 1 the team trailed a whopping 15-6 in set 2 before rallying after a controversial substitution decision which seemed to spark the group. So remember that in tournament play sets are played best 2 out of 3 to 25 so this set appeared stuffed and baked in the oven for Coronado. After the substitution controversy, however, the Lady Dragons outscored Coronado 19-9 to close the set and end the day. LDVB was led by the strong serving of junior Libero Keagan Polk who had an 8-0 run behind the line.

The Lady Dragons. 6-2, now draw an 11am first serve vs. Aledo on day 2 of the Northwest ISD tournament. The Lady Dragons will need two more wins to move to the championship bracket on Saturday.
