Tied at three apiece in their district game vs. Timber Creek tonight, Lady Dragon Softball, 16-9 and 3-5 in district 5-6A, headed into its most critical inning of the season. A loss would have sent the Lady Dragons into a 2-5 hole in district play and put them in a position to need help to make the playoffs.

None of that is the reality of the moment, however, thanks to a two out two RBI single on the first pitch of the at-bat by Lillian Cooper in the bottom of the 6th. This gave the Lady Dragons a 5-3 victory over Timber Creek at home.

To quote the song the Lady Dragons needed a hero. And Cooper was just that. Now the Lady Dragons are right back in the thick of what has turned into a fight for the final 5-6A berth.

Now the team is tied with Fossil Ridge halfway through district play. The win in the circle went to Allie Nuenke who relieved Kelly Shackelford. Nuenke pitched three innings while striking out a pair to pick up the all important W.

Up next the Lady Dragon kick start the second half of district play with a home match up vs. district leading and undefeated Keller. First pitch is at 7pm on Friday, March 29. It is Teacher Appreciation night at Dragon Softball Complex.
