Dragon Cross Country and Lady Dragon Cross Country hosted their annual Southlake Invitational Meet at Bob Jones Park on Saturday. Nobody told Mother Nature that it is not supposed to rain while you are hosting over 3,000 runners from around the nation. Like every other outdoor sporting event last weekend the meet was affected by the weather as only the first three races were able to be completed before field flooding took over and caused the postponement of the remainder of the meet.

We are ever so grateful to our numerous volunteers who helped us pull off a wonderful meet despite the atmospheric conditions. Enough about the weather..on to the action on the course.

When the meet got underway Boys Varsity Elite took top honors as Nate Lannen was the first Dragon across the line, finishing 7th overall with a time of 16:44 followed by Henry Gardner in 12th at 16:57 and Drew Bliss in 13th at 16:57.

The Lady Dragon Elite squad took bronze medal position with Grace Williamson finishing in 24th at 20:09 and Payton Wichman finishing 25th also with 20:09.

In the final race of the day the Lady Dragons took 1st place in the Open division with Kaitlyn Rodysill in 1st at 21:36 and Laurel Hook in 4th at 22:12.

Carroll Head Cross Country Coach Justin Leonard said he was thrilled with the day's outcome. "We are extremely pleased with the way our athletes responded to today's conditions. Anyone can run fast when the conditions are ideal but the sign of a champion is when they can block it out and complete the goal. I wish we could have run all the races but sometimes unexpected things happen."

Conditions should be much better this week when the Varsity Elite teams travel to Norco, CA for the Woodbridge XC Classic.
