Those looking for classic playoff drama on the opening day of the UIL State playoffs will need to watch other games tonight. Carroll's game one of the bi-district series vs. Plano at QuickTrip Park was a bit of a laughfer - (a common phrase in the baseball lexicon) as Dragon Baseball won in a 10 run rule victory 12-1.
It took all of 8 pitches from the Plano starter for Carroll to be up 3-0. A triple by Cade Bell and two run scoring singles and abracadabra the game was over. Carroll finished any thoughts of a Plano comeback in the 3rd as they scored 5 more runs to race out to an 11-0 lead after sprinkling 3 more runs in the 2nd for good measure.
Kyle Warden, 5-1, thanked the offense very much for all the run support and coasted to the 5 inning complete game as he struck out 3 while efforting only 86 pitches. He was pretty good on the mound and had a hit at the plate.
Carroll pounded out 10 hits on the day as a trifecta of Dragons each had 3 RBIs. Cole Johnson, Nik Millsap and Will Quillen lead the offensive attack.
Carroll, 25-6, leads the best 2-3 series 1-0 and looks to make quick work of the bi-district series when they return to QuickTrip park at 5pm tomorrow, May 4th for game 2.
